Clean hands help stop infections spreading
Soap and water remove germs from the hands and are especially important before eating and after using the toilet.
Hand hygiene is one of the simplest ways to reduce the spread of many infections. Wash with soap and clean running water, including palms, backs of hands, between fingers and around nails.
Important times to clean your hands
- Before preparing or eating food.
- After using the toilet.
- After coughing, sneezing or blowing your nose.
- Before handling medicines for someone else.
When soap and water are unavailable, an alcohol-based hand rub can be useful for many everyday situations.
